Black Tea

Lapsang Souchong

A black tea from the Fujian province of China, Lapsang Souchong tea is known for its smoky flavour and aroma. Lapsang Souchong tea leaves are dried over a smoking pine fire and roasted in bamboo baskets to yield a full-bodied, yet sweet, black tea taste thatÕs best enjoyed on its own.

A tea with a rich history, Lapsang Souchong is derived from the coarser and less aromatic parts of the Camellia sinensis leaf, and is thought to have first been created during the time of the Chinese Qing dynasty.

Legend has it that Lapsang Souchong tea was first produced purely by chance, as tea makers were eager to speed up the drying process of the tea leaves in anticipation of invading armies. To do this, they dried the tea leaves over smoking fires made from pine, which just so happened to infuse the leaves with a beautifully sweet and smoky flavour.

If you’re a whisky drinker, or just love a full-bodied black tea with a smoky flavour, then you will love Lapsang Souchong tea.

Brew your loose-leaf Lapsang Souchong tea in fresh just-boiled water, and let it steep for 2-3 minutes, depending on your preference.
